Exemption Number— 021524A
I have reviewed the information submitted to this office concerning the necessary repairs to existing bulkhead located
at 463 Goose Nest Lane, and determined that the activity to be undertaken is exempt from needing a permit as long
as the plans remain consistent with those submitted on 1/31/2024, and meets the conditions specified below. If your
plans should change and your project will no longer meet these conditions, please contact me before proceeding
MAINTENANCE AND REPAIR — [G.S. 11 3.103(5)(B)(5) and 15A NCAC 7J.0210(2)(a)] - (a) in the case of fixed
docks, piers, platforms, boathouses, boatlifts, and free standing moorings, more than 50% of the framing and
structural components (beams, gutters, joist, stringers, or pilings) must be rebuilt in order to restore the structure to
its pre -damaged condition. Water dependent structures that are structurally independent from the principal pier or
dock, such as boatlifts or boathouses, are considered as separate structures for the purpose of this rule;
Structures may be repaired in a similar manner, size and location as the original structure. No expansions or
additions are permissible and the following specific conditions apply:
1. The project involves repairing approximately 30 feet of the exiting 160 foot bulkhead..
2. The proposed repairs shall be consistent with all other applicable local ordinances and North Carolina
Building Code standards.
3. Any additional changes to the plans submitted may require additional authorization.
This exemption to CAMA permit requirements does not alleviate the necessity of your obtaining any other State,
Federal or Local authorization and N.C. Building Permits. This exemption expires on June 15, 2024 with the option
for renewal.
Sincerely,
