Gentlemen,
Recent severe storm conditions have caused significant dune and beach erosion.
The dune on your property has been totally wiped out and the beach area has
experienced severe scouring, placing our home in eminent danger if erosion control
measures are not implemented in the near future. (see attached photos).
This condition exist along the entire oceanfront of Buxton and action is being taken by
all our neighbors to secure permits to place sandbags along the shoreline of their
properties. The NC Division of Coastal Management made an inspection of the area and
is prepared to issue permits for the placement of the sandbags after filing the required
paper work and the placement of the bags conforms to their standards (copy enclosed).
The permit for the sandbags can only be obtained for the protection of existing homes,
septic drain -fields and roads. This is our only option at this time to protect our homes.
The placement of the bags to protect our home under the current design would require
that we cross on to your property. (drawing attached)
