Subject: RE:Cherry Branch Ferry Channel Navigation Aid Cluster Replace
Good morning Brian,
DCM has reviewed the NCDOT Ferry Division's proposal to replace one three-pile cluster in the Cherry Branch ferry
channel that provides support for a green light navigational aid (#9) as described in your request email dated May 9,
2023. The request letter indicates that the pile cluster was damaged during a ferry collision with the cluster. The
NCDOT Ferry Division letter also states the following information: "The existing 3 piles are wood and will be replaced
with wooden piles of the same width and length. The location of the pile cluster will not change. A vibratory hammer,
along with a clamshell bucket, will be utilized to remove and install all piles. This work should take approximately 5 days
and would take place between May 27 and June 10."
DCM has established the proposed work to be maintenance/repair of the existing pilings. Therefore this project, as
described, will not require a CAMA permit from the N.C. Division of Coastal Management. Please be reminded that all
repair/maintenance work must occur as described and within the existing footprint. This email serves as authorization
from DCM to proceed with the proposed work. All conditions and stipulations of the active permit remain in force unless
altered herein.
Please consult with any other local, state or federal agencies that may require a permit or authorization before project
initiation.
If any aspect of this authorization request should change, please contact me before proceeding. Please contact me with
any questions or if I may be of any further assistance with this project.
Sincerely,
Stephen Lane
