Project summary The applicant proposes to replace an existing bridge on S.R. 1415 over Trotman Creek in Gates County with 3" corrugated steel pipe arch culverts. NORTH CAROLINA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION BRIDGE #34 ON S.R. 1415 OVER TROTMAN CREEK, GATES COUNTY BIO REPORT PAGE 2 SITE DESCRIPTION The applicant proposes to replace an existing bridge over S.R. 1415 with three (3) 95 inch by 67 inch by 50 feet corrugated steel pipe arch culverts. The existing bridge is 5 feet above MHW and the creek is navigable. The existing bridge is bordered on either side with wooded swamp. The current water depth is approximatel 3 to 4 feet. The proposed project will result in the excavation and filling of 3500 square feet of creek bottom. ANTICIPATED IMPACTS The proposed project will result in the filling of 180 cubic yards below NWL. with a total of 560 cubic yards of fill being required. The proposed pro;;ect will result in increased levels of turbidity, although the effects will be localized and short termed. The proposed project will stop navigation by boat at the site, making a portage necessary.
