S. 17 South Elizabeth City, North Carolina 27909 Dear Mr. Sampson: SUBJECT: Proposed Extension of Permit Expiration Date for CAMA Major Development Permit 7-98: Improvements to US 64-264, Including the construction of a new Croatan Sound bridge, from west of Maims Harbor to NC 345, south of Manteo, in Dare County; Federal Aid Project No. NHF-64 (6); State Project No. 8.T051401; TIP No. R-2551. The NCDOT requests that the permit expiration date be extended from December 31, 2001 to July 1, 2003. Weather related delays as well as construction and engineering delays have altered the construction schedule. It is no longer anticipated that construction of the new bridge will be complete by December 31, 2001. Therefore, the Department requests that the expiration date for Major Development Permit No. 7-98 be moved to July 1, 2003. If you object to the permit or any of the conditions,you may request a hearing pursuant to NCGS 113A-121.1 or 113-229. Your petition for a hearing must be filed in accordance with NCGS Chapter 150B with the Office of Administrative Hearings, P.O. Drawer 11666, Raleigh,NC 27611, (919)733-2698 within twenty(20)days of this decision on your permit. You should also be aware that if another qualified party submits a valid objection to the issuance of this permit within twenty (20) days, the matter must be resolved prior to work initiation. The Coastal Resources Commission makes the fmal decision on any appeal. The project plan is subject to those conditions appearing on the permit form. Otherwise, all work must be carried out in accordance with your application. Modifications, time extensions, and future maintenance require additional approval.Please read your permit carefully prior to starting work and review all project plans,as approved.If you are having the work done by a contractor,it would be to your benefit to be sure that he fully understands all permit requirements. Jennings, III, Coastal Management Representative SUBJECT: NCDOT Croatan Sound Bridge, CAMA Major Permit #7-98 DATE: July 9, 2001 CAMA Major Permit #7-98 was issued on January 20, 1998 to the North Carolina Department of Transportation authorizing the construction of a new Croatan Sound bridge for US 64/264, Dare County. The permit has an expiration date of December 31, 2001. The applicant has completed substantial development under this permit, and has now submitted an extension request citing weather delays and engineering delays.
