Dear Collins Family:
Subject: Dare County, proposed Roanoke Island rest area and visitor information center. State
Project No. 8.1052501. TIP No. K-4003.
The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) proposes to construct a
visitor information center and rest area adjacent to US 64-264 between the Croatan Sound and
the US 64/NC 345 intersection, Dare County. At the request of federal and state resource
agencies,NCDOT wishes to modify an existing permit issued for the construction of the new
Croatan Sound Bridge, from west of Maims Harbor to NC 345 south of Manteo in Dare County
for impacts associated with the visitor information center and rest area.
The proposed right-of-way for this project will be approximately 9.2 ac . The project will
result in 1.14 ac of permanent fill in wetlands and 145.5 ft stream impacts. No stream relocation
or channel change will be involved. Permit drawings depicting this proposed work are attached.
A permit modification from the North Carolina Division of Coastal Management(DCM)
is required for this work. This permit is being obtained by the North Carolina Department of
Transportation. In that your property is adjacent to the site where this permit is required, a copy
of the permit application is being provided for your review; however, no action is required on
your part.
