Dear Mr. Turner:
This letter is in reference to your 1 July 1997 correspondence requesting a change in CAMA Major
Permit No. 62-97. CAMA Major Permit No. 62-97 was issued to the Department of Transportation on
8 May 1997 for the replacement of Bridge No. 27 on US 17 over Salmon Creek in Bertie County, North
Carolina.
The NC DOT is requesting that the permit be modified to allow for the following:
1. Drop the water storage/distribution canals that were proposed in each quadrant of the
highway crossing Salmon Creek.
2. Install three large (±7' by 5') metal pipe arches in the causeway, two of which will be
located west of the creek and the third to be east of the creek as per your modified plats
dated 1 July 1997.
This letters serves as a refinement to CAMA Major Permit No. 62-97 reflecting the aforementioned
changes. Your modified plats dated 1 July 1997 will become a permanent part of the file and construction
should be carried out accordingly. All previous permit conditions including the 31 December 2000
expiration date still apply and remain unchanged.
Thank you for your time and cooperation in this matter. If you have any questions, please don't
hesitate to contact me or David Moye in the Washington Regional Office (919) 946-6481.
Sincerely,

Dear Mr. Moore:
SUBJECT: Request for Refinement to CAMA Major Development Permit# 62-97
for the Proposed Improvements to US 17 at Salmon Creek, Bertie County;
TIP No. R-2404B&C; State Project No. 6.0109001T
As a result of discussions with state and federal resource agencies. the
Department of Transportation has recently proposed two modifications to the design of
the Salmon Creek crossing. The water storage/distribution canals that were proposed
in each quadrant of the highway crossing of Salmon Creek have been dropped from
further consideration by the Department.
The Department has further agreed to install three large (+/- 7ft X 5ft) metal pipe
arches in the causeway, two of which will be located west of the creek and the third to
be east of the creek (see enclosed preliminary plan sheets).
Since these two design changes will occur within the CAMA permit area and
were not proposed in the original permit application, it is requested that your office
review and approve these changes under a refinement action, if possible. Please call
me if you have any questions about the work that is proposed.
Sincerely,
M. Randall Turner, Division Environmental Officer
