Here are summaries of Hurricane Dorian preparations for the Bonner Bridge and Rodanthe Bridge Projects as of Tuesday September 3, 2019. Bonner Bridge PCL started moving barges away from the existing Bonner Bridge this morning and securing loose items on the project. The support barges and the small crane barge will be moved to the South Dock area (SE of the new bridge). The two large crane barges (Crofton 4600 &Weeks 568) will be moored to the breasting piles behind/along-sie the terminal groin with spuds down and anchors deployed. These two cranes are too tall to transit under the new bridge to get to the South Dock. PCL has coordinated with the USCG Sector NC for the marine equipment Remain In Port requests/information. The north end demolition crane will be boomed down to the deck level. The crane that is between the bridges on the North Platform will be boomed to approx. 30 degree angle. It cannot be boomed all the way down due to the platform is not large enough for the long boom. The boom will be positioned parallel to the bridges. Traffic control devices will be removed from NC 12 at the north end of the project today and at the south end of the project Wednesday morning. PCL's goal is to have all items tied down, moored, secured by COB on Wednesday with the majority completed this early evening. Rodanthe Bridge. Flatiron began storm preparations Monday Sept 2. All crane booms will be secured today at the south and north ends of the project. The south gantry cranes will be secured this afternoon and the north gantry cranes will be secured tomorrow morning. At this time Flatiron is 60-70%complete with securing loose materials in the south staging yard. All materials&equipment that could be hazards or difficult to replace are being moved to higher ground or stacked on top of steel trestle beams or other materials. 2 Traffic drums, signs and message boards will be taken down in a staged/staggered manner today&tomorrow. The goal is to be complete with all storm preparations by 3:30 pm Wednesday afternoon. Summary. Both projects have been very cooperative in their preparations and discussions with me and my staff. Both projects have been advised to treat everything as if it can float, wash away, or blow away in their preparations. Also both projects have been advised to secure equipment & materials such that they do not pose a hazard to existing infrastructure. The plans, items, goals that I have mentioned above are subject to revision as the preparation evolve. I will advise you of any major revisions.
