Subject: RE: B-4590 New Hanover Bridge No. 29 request to cut piles
Good morning Anneliese,
The Division of Coastal Management has reviewed the NCDOT's proposal to allow the contractor to cut off any piles(at
1 foot below the mud line)from the edge of the existing bridge deck out to 36 feet left of the-L-due to a possible
conflict with an existing Alum Sludge line on the B-4590 project as requested in your August 16, 2021 email to me. The
DCM is in agreement with the subject proposal, therefore, please consider this email as the DCM's official authorization
of this request. I will coordinate a site visit with you in the near future to monitor these activities. Please let me know if
you have any questions regarding this email or if I can be of any further assistance.

Subject: B-4590 New Hanover Bridge No. 29 request to cut piles
Hi Stephen,
This email is in reference to DCM Permit Number 70-20 for the TIP No. B-4590 bridge project. Please see the attached
mark-up of Permit Drawing Sheet 2 of 10. As we discussed at the on-site preconstruction meeting for the bridge, the
surveyor was able to use a function of the total station to get an accurate location of the 4th pile from the west side of
the bridge on the southern fender system. The center of that 4th pile is 36 feet left of the-L- .
Therefore, the department would like to request to be able to cut off(at 1 foot below the bed of the water body) any
piles from the edge of the existing bridge deck to the red line shown on the attached mark-up. By cutting off the piles
instead of attempting to pull them, we can avoid possible conflict with an existing Alum Sludge line (which is referenced
as an FSS line on the permit drawing).
Please let me know if you have any questions or if you need any additional information.
Thank you,
Anneliese
