Project Description
An extension to the existing offshore sill is
proposed to be constructed at 108 Line Boat Ln,
Swansboro, NC, as shown to the left and below.
The proposed length of the extension is
approximately 28 linear feet, making the total
length of offshore sill approximately 100 linear
feet.
The extension will be constructed by layering
oyster shell and/or marl bags parallel to the shore
as shown in Figure 2. Coir fiber matting or
equivalent will be placed underneath the material
to reduce settling. The landward edge of the sill
will be no more than 30 feet waterward of normal
high water or no more than 5 feet waterward of
existing coastal wetlands, whichever distance is
greater. Gaps at least 5 feet in width will be
placed at least every 100 feet in the sills to allow
water circulation and fish passage per permit
requirements. Baffled gaps will be constructed
where possible. All other applicable specific and
general conditions outlined at 15A NCAC
07H.2700 will be met.
