REMARKS: Good afternoon,
To assist in our discussion tomorrow morning we are providing:
-post construction photos of north facing photos taken every 500 ft. (Sta.
270 - 530)
-pdf of sediment lab samples where a resample was requested
-pdf of sediment lab samples of resampled results
-pdf of additional samples not yet provided, which did not require
resampling
-excel spreadsheet summarizing all sediment lab samples
Please choose the link to Download all associated files' as opposed to
downloading files individually.
Below is a summary of information we can discuss further at meeting.
For color, all Munsell dry colors have been reported as 10YR-5/1 or higher.

Please see the north facing post construction photos taken every 500 ft.
from Station 270 - 530. Recall the project was from Sta. 295 - 475 so
some comparison with native can be observed in photos.
For sediment sampling the Contractor was consistently taking a sample
between elevation 5-8 around the base of the dune.
When samples at Sta. 387, 445, 449, 450, & 454 first came back with
carbonate above 25% on May 12 (after weekly construction meeting) & 13,
the Engineer did not feel this was representative of the material being
placed on the beach, so the Engineer directed the Contractor to resample
the stations by taking a sample from top of dune (elevation 14) and
midway on front dune (elevation 10). Sta. 442 was also resampled in this
batch since it was submitted at same time, even though carbonate was
below 25%. These resampled results came back on May 18 and are
documented in green on spreadsheet, Sta. 454 resampled results were not
received at that time. These resampled results still showed carbonate
above 25% with the exception of Sta. 387. Also on May 18 Sta. 437 and
439 results received for first time with carbonate above 25%.
On May 19 the Contractor and Engineer had discussions to determine how
to sample in a way that was representative given the dune construction
methodology. At the weekly construction meeting on May 19, Engineer
stated that some sediment samples had been received with carbonate on
average 2-3% above 25% allowed and was working with the Contractor to
resample. On May 20 Engineer provided Contractor direction to resample
Sta. 387, 437, 439, 442, 445, 449, 450, and 454 by taking a composite
sample from around dune toe (elevation 7) and mixing with a sample taken
from foreshore (elevation 4). The Engineer assisted the Contractor onsite in
collecting the composite samples. These resampled results came back on
May 26 and are documented in orange on the spreadsheet.
The final resampled results show Sta
between 26- 27 % (spec 25%). Sta.
6.01 - 6.12% (spec 6%).
Thanks,
Katie Finegan
