To: Heather Coats
From: Michael Christenbury, Wilmington District Planner
Subject: Consistency Determination, Major Permit Application, Town of Oak
Island, Oak Island – Brunswick County
Date: March 15, 2021
This project appears to be consistent and not in conflict with the Oak Island Land Use
Plan Update.
The applicant proposes to expand their beach nourishment project to include
McGlammery Street to SE 63rd Street and between 7th/10th Place W. to the West End
Beach Access within the Town of Oak Island, NC.
Areas of Environmental Concern (AEC’s) impacted by the proposal are OH and PTA.
Waters at the project site are classified as SB and are not open to the harvesting of
shellfish. The area is not a Primary Nursery Area.
I have reviewed this proposal for consistency with the Oak Island Land Use Plan and
offer the following comments.
The general area of the project is classified as developed.
In general, Oak Island allows development in developed classified AECs which is
consistent with the State’s minimum use standards. The Oak Island Land Use Plan
contains some policies, which exceed the State’s minimum use standards. However,
none of these standards appear to be applicable to this proposal.
This project appears to be consistent with the Oak Island Land Use Plan.
