Secretary
This is with reference to your request to modify State Permit #91-96, which was issued to Bald Head Island,
Limited on June 3, 1996. The permit expires on 11/15/16. (NOTE; The expiration date of this permit has been extended
in accordance with Session Law 2009406, as amended by Session Law 2010-177.) The action proposed in your submittal
is to construct two 24' in length by 9' in width boat access landings at Slip GI and two 34' in length by 9' in width boat
access landings at Slip G6, to include 32 associated pilings. The proposed work is adjacent to the Deep Point marina basin
and the Cape Fear River, in Southport, Brunswick County.
Upon reviewing the information provided, the Division of Coastal Management has determined that the proposed
action is consistent with existing State rules and regulations and is in keeping with the original purpose and intent of the
permit. This Letter of Remement authorizes the modification of State Permit #91-96, as described in your letter dated
April 18 2012, plans dated April 17, 2012 and dated received April 9, 2012.
Please note this refinement does not authorize any plan changes not expressly described above and does not
alleviate the need to obtain any other state or federal permits or authorizations. By copy of this letter we are also notifying
the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers of our action. If you have any questions concerning the above or if I can be of any
other assistance, please advise.
Sincerely,
Debra Wilson

Re: CAMA Permit #91-96 Letter of Refinement Request for Deep Point Marina Ferry Slip G1 & G6
Landing(s) with Safety Ladders/Steps
Dear Ms. Coats:
Enclosed, please find five copies of 11" x 17" drawing seal dated 4-17-12 for the Bald Head Island
Limited, LLC Deep Point Marina. The two ferry "slip" positions GI & G6 have fixed position, timber pile
supported, wood deck landings. G6 is pictured in the upper two photos on my submittal. The fight
hand photo of the two was taken recently at low tide. The 72' Bald Head Island Ferry "Sans Soucci" is
shown berthed at the dock. With ferry runs starting at 6 a.m. and the last ferry off the island seasonally
after midnight, these positions are often utilized after dark for crew access. These are not public
access slips.
The middle left picture also shows Sans Soucci, this time at high tide berthed to the maintenance pier,
where we have a "steps up" position to for the crew and maintenance workers to safely access the
vessel. The middle right picture shows the "steps down" position for low tide access.
We would like to expand the existing service landings for similar high/low access for the ferries at Gl &
G6. At GI, to best utilize existing structure, I am showing an approximate 9' x 24' landing, with 2'+ of
the 9' being on top of the 2' wide concrete bulkhead cap. At G6, again utilizing existing structure, the
geometry works out to approximate 9' x 34'. Dimensions are nominal, and would be "best fit" in the
field based on hull curvatures.
That of course is the simplified solution for our safe access. Of the four ferries, two are 82' long x 28'
wide, one is 72' long x 22.5' wide and the fourth is 64' long x 22' vide. Gate positions and pile tie-ups
(dolphins) only are identical for Patriot and Ranger. If Adventure (64') and San Soucci (72') are both
at the maintenance pier (slip positions G4 & G5), and both 82' catamarans are at Gl & G6, then a
duplicate midship gate access would cover all of the possible ferry configurations.
Item 5 on the drawing indicates our request for a total of 32 10"-12" diameter timber piles. 20 for the
landing expansions, and 12 for four additional 3 pile dolphin clusters (or six two pile dolphins).
If you have any questions and/or comments, please call me at 910.228-2484. When complete, please
have copies faxed to 910-457-7463 or emailed to me at both bmarek@bhisland.com and
marekyd@ec.rr.com. Thanking you in advance for your attention to this matter.
Respectfully, „
