Dear Mr. Venters:
This letter is in response to your request for renewal of your Major Permit No. 162-96
under the Coastal Area Management Act (CAMA) and our December 19, 2001,telephone
conversation. In your letter stated that you have completed the permitted development. As we
discussed, T15A:07J.0404(a) of the Rules of the Coastal Resources Commission, states in part that
"the permitting authority shall grant as many two year extensions as necessary to complete the
initial development." Based on this rule, your request to renew your permit cannot be granted and
the staff in the Division's Washington District office is returning your check to you. You are also
advised that should a major storm event or hurricane occur and your structure incurs damage, there
are permit vehicles in place that will provide you with the opportunity to repair or replace your
structure (copy attached).
If you have any questions concerning this matter, please feel free to contact me by telephone
at (919) 733-2293, extension 240, or by email at Jeff.Schaffer@ncmail.net.
Sincerely,
f

SUBJECT:
Renewal of Permit No. 162-96 issued to Mrs. A. T. Venters
for a boathouse, Beaufort County
CAMA Major Permit No. 162-96 was issued to Mrs. A. T. Venters for the
construction of a boathouse on SR 1497 at Bayview on the Pamlico River in
Beaufort County, North Carolina. The permit has been renewed one time and
during the two years of the renewal the 1999 storms destroyed Mr. Venter's pier
and boathouse and he replaced it as permitted. I support the renewal of the permit.
The $100 fee to cover the cost of the renewal has been deposited into the
Department's account. If you have any questions, please give me a call.
