Drawer 820 Atlantic Beach, NC 28512 Dear Mr. Bradley: NORTH CAROLINA DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENT AND NATURAL RESOURCES DIVISION OF COASTAL MANAGEMENT This correspondence is in reference to your letter of January 26, 1999 requesting the WAYNE MCDEVITT modification of CAMA Permit #119-96. According to your letter, you wish to SECRETARY modify the permit to allow for the construction of five 8' X 12' and one 20' X 26' sun shelters on the Sportman's Pier, located at 500 Money Island Drive, in Atlantic Beach, Carteret Country. DONNA D. MOFFITT DIRECTOR The purpose of the open -sided shelters is to provide customers with a place to momentarily get out of the sun and rain while fishing from the pier. According to the plans submitted, the five smaller shelters would be spaced evenly along the main access pier while the larger structure would be located at the point where the main access pier and end fishing platform meet. You also propose to shift the "modified L-shaped platform" to a "T-shaped platform" and change the comers of the end platform from square comers to 45-degree angled comers. Based on the 2/23/99 survey by Joseph T. Chance, P.L.S., such a shift would bring the western end of the platform to a distance of 17.34 feet from that riparian line. Please be advised that CAMA Permit #119-96 is hereby refined to include the above modifications with the exception of the elevated deck and rail associated with the larger sun shelter. With that exception, all development must be consistent with the letters, drawings and survey that was submitted to this office. Please attach a copy of this letter and associated plats to the original permit so that they may be made available to department personnel when making routine monitoring inspections. The reshaping of the "T" involves no additional square footage and should give the structure a better chance of survival in rough weather and is drawn in the first attachment.
