O. Box 769 Morehead City, NC 28557 Dear Mr. Bodnar: 17 November 2014 Natural Resources John E. Skvarla, III Secretary This letter of refinement is in reference to your 14 November 2014 email on behalf of the NC Division of Marine Fisheries (NCDMF), requesting a modification of Major CAMA Permit Number 94-14 issued to NCDMF on 27 October 2014. Permit Number 94-14 was issued for the expansion of the boundaries of artificial reef AR-298, located 3.5 miles north of Silver Lake in Ocracoke in Dare County, to encompass ±76.36 acres. You have requested a change to increase the tonnage of precast concrete units from 550 tons to 900 tons in the approved location shown on Figure 7 dated 14 November 2014 (attached). This area was approved for 100% coverage of the 4.575 acres and this proposal will not result in an increase of the permitted footprint. In no case will the height exceed the minimum vertical navigation clearance of 7 feet at normal water level. Your request to increase the tonnage of precast concrete material from 550 tons to 900 tons is hereby authorized. All work must be carried out in accordance with your revised plat dated 14 November 2014 (attached). All permit conditions still apply and remain unchanged. The expiration date of this permit is 31 December 2017. Thank you for your time and cooperation in this matter. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me in the Washington Regional Office at 252-948- 3852. Sincerely, David W. Materials identified in the CAMA documentation include crushed concrete, Reef Balls^", precast concrete and concrete pipe. The NC DMF artificial reef program intends to refine the original permit by increasing the tonnage of precast concrete depicted in Figure 7 of the CAMA permit. Additional material were obtained which will increase the overall tonnage from approximately 550 tons to approximately 900 tons and therefore increasing the individual patch reef tonnage from approximately 110 tons to 180 tons. The original CAMA permit noted that the entire 4.575 acres depicted in Figure 7 will be disturbed providing 100% coverage. The increase in tonnage will therefore not augment the disturbed footprint, while staying below the intended minimum vertical clearance of 7 feet at normal water conditions rather than mean low water. Please refer to the updated Figure 7 for the refinements described here. This Figure 7 supersedes all past versions.
