Smyrna Bore Project Carteret County, 1 North Carolina In past correspondence NCDCM (email from Ryan Davenport 11-10-2021) informed Duke that a GP1600 would be required for this project. The project involves the replacement of an existing underground distribution line between parcel -A and parcel-C on the attached aerial. Existing conditions consist of a driveway that was damaged/washed out due to past storm events leaving the existing underground distribution line conduit exposed (see photo sheets attached). Photograph 4 shows the depth and existing conduit that was buried by the driveway prior to washout. The other photographs show the existing driveway. The driveway is the proposed path of the new underground distribution line to be bored under this feature to tie to the existing transformer located on parcel -A (see attached Exhibit 3). Duke Energy proposes to use horizontal directional drill (HDD) equipment to install the underground conduit a minimum of 2' below the bottom contour of the approximately V-4' deep tidal feature (photograph 4). The HDD bore start/exit and the approximate proposed path of bore are shown on the attached Exhibit 3. No open cut trenching, fill, or HDD bore start/exit are proposed in jurisdictional areas as part of the project. This project is needed to replace the exposed distribution conduit to protect this line enabling Duke to provide service safely and efficiently to customers in this area.
