This is with reference to the request submitted by you, to modify State Permit #33-14, which was originally issued to you on
April 2, 2014, for wetlands fill and construction of a residential dwelling at 1311 N. New River Drive, in Surf City, Pender
County. State Permit #33-14 is scheduled to expire on December 31, 2017. The action proposed in your submittal consists
of installing a sixty-six (66) foot linear section of retaining wall around the western perimeter of the residence. As designed,
a 50' long retaining wall would bolt to the existing house pilings (inside of pilings) and would run parallel to the pilings
spanning the width of the house (or from north to south). The retaining wall would make a turn to the east and span another
16' along the outer house pilings, along the southern side. The purpose of the retaining wall would be to contain any fill
material placed beneath the residence.
Upon review of the submitted request, dated received on July 8, 2014, the Division of Coastal Management has determined
that the proposed action continues to be consistent with existing State rules and regulations and is in keeping with the
original purpose and intent of the permit. This Letter of Refinement authorizes the modification of State Permit #33-14, as
described in your letter dated received in our office on July 8, 2014. Please note that this Letter of Refinement does not
authorize any additional development.
