NOTE: The proposed project is certified under General Water Quality Certification No. 1272 issued on November 10, 1978, for bulkhead construction. This permit action may be appealed by the permittee or other qualified persons within twenty (20) days of the issuing date. An appeal requires resolution prior to work initiation or continuance, as the cue may be. This permit must be accessible on -site to Department personnel when the project is inspected for compliance. Any maintenance work or project modification not covered hereunder requires further Departmental approval. Project summary The applicant is Proposing to repair 72' of bulkhead and to construct 50' of new bulkhead. r Environmental settin The applicant owns a 110' by 209' by 194' lot adjacent to a canal and the Pamlico River. No dwellings are located on the property. Located on the property where the canal connects to the Pamlico River is + 72' of deteriorated bulkhead. The bulkhead is broken and erosion is occurring landward of it. A few small ,patches (less than 20 sq.ft.) of Juncus roemerianus are present landward of this bulkhead. Project proposal The applicant is proposing to repair the 72' of deteriorated bulkhead and to construct 50' of new bulkhead within the canal adjacent to the deteriorated bulkhead. When completed, the entire bulkhead will average + 7' beyond the NWL and will be + 12' beyond the NWL at the furthest point. Environmental impact The project as proposed will result in + 450 sq.ft. of open water area within the canal being filled and will result in + 20 sq.ft. of Juncus roemerianus being filled. David L.
