This permit, issued on 7' 5' a '5 , is subject to compliance with the application (where consistent
with the permit), all applicable regulations, special conditions and notes set forth below. Any violation of these terns may subject
permittee to a fine, imprisonment or civil action; or may cause the permit to be null and void.
(1) All excavated materials will be confined on high ground behind adequate
dikes or other retaining structures to prevent spillover of solids into
any marsh or surrounding waters.
(2) The disposal area effluent will be contained by pipe, trough, or similar
device to a point at or below the MLW mark to prevent gully erosion and
resultant unnecessary siltation.
(3) The terminal end of the pipeline will be positioned at or greater than
50' from any part of the dike and a maximum distance from spillways to allow
adequate settlement of suspended solids.
(4) A water control structure will be installed at the intake end of the effluent
pipe so as to assure compliance with Condition No. 5.
(5) The activity will be conducted in such a manner as to prevent significant
increases in turbidity outside of the area of construction or construction -re-
lated discharge (increases of 25 JTUs or less are not considered significant).
(See attached sheet for Additional Conditions)
This permit action may be appealed by the permittee
or other qualified persons within twenty (20) days of the
issuing date. An appeal requires resolution prior to work
initiation or continuance, as the case may be.
This permit must be accessible on -site to Department
personnel when the project is inspected for compliance.
Any maintenance work or project modification
not covered hereunder requires further Departmental
approval.
All work must cease when the permit expires on
,June 30, 1990
In issuing this permit, the State of North Carolina
agrees that your project is consistent with the North
Carolina Coastal Management Program.

or upon the adjacent waters and/or marshland.
(7) In order to protect juvenile shrimp populations, no excavation or filling
will be permitted between the dates of April 1 through September 30 of any
year without the prior approval of the Division of Coastal Management.
NOTE: The permittee is requested to call the DCM at 726-7021 and arrange for
a final inspection of dike and water control structure prior to beginning
actual dredging.
MAINTENANCE CLAUSE
For any maintenance after December 31, 1985, the Department must be modified
in writing at least two (2) weeks in advance of work authorized by this permit
and that notification must include:
A. the number of the original dredge and fill permit
B a statement that no dimensional changes are proposed.
C. a copy of the original permit plat(s) with cross -hatching indicating the
area to be maintained, the area to be used for spoil, and the estimated
amount of material to be removed.
D. the date of map revision and the permittee's signature shown anew on the
original plat.

The NC DOT -Division of Highway -Ferry Divisionrhereby makes
application to perform maintenance dredging in the ferry
channel and basin at Cherry Branch Ferry Terminal on the
Neuse River in Cravan County.
Attached is the application form and drawing depecting the
excavation of approximately 152000 cubic yards of material
to be deposited on high ground within the existing diked
spoil area.
