MEMORANDUM TO

From

Subject
App.
for State
permit DOT Div. Hwy. 6 8-77
Location - Hyde County - Nebraska Canal on SR 1110 at Nebraska
Investigative process - Site investigated June 3, 1977. App. rec. Raleigh 6-10-77;
Morehead 6-13-77.
Environmental setting - The site encompasses some 60' of Nebraska Canal, lying on
either side of SR 1110. The existing canal which enters into Wysocking Bay measures
approximately 25' wide at this point, with an existing depth of less than 3'. The
canal(and spoil piles)at this point is constructed entirely in high land with some
commercial and residential development located in the immediate vicinity. The canal
appears to be relatively shallow for the majority of its length, with a mud substrate.
Project description - The applicant proposes to remove the existing bridge crossing
the canal on SR 1110 and replace the structure with two 60' long drainage pipes. In
the process, approximately 150 cu'.yds. of muck and sand material will be removed from
the canal; the pipes installed, and 80' of sand will be backfilled.around the pipes.
Environmental impact - If,the project is constructed as proposed, some short term
turbidity will occur during excavation and filling. The project appears to be purely
a highway maintenance operation in an effort to improve traffic -load on SR 1110.
