Dear Mr. Klotz:
I have reviewed the information submitted to this office in your inquiry concerning the necessary filing of
an application for a minor development permit under the Coastal Area Management Act. Based on the
information provided, I have determined that the activity you propose is exempt from needing a minor
development permit as long as it remains consistent with your site drawing dated received by DCM on
February 7, 2017 and meets the conditions specified below. If your plans should change and your project
will no longer meet these conditions, please contact me before proceeding.
Maintenance & Repair/Accessory Structure
1. The work authorized under this exemption specifically includes construction of a 10' x 12' deck along
the rear of the existing structure. No additions, including roof overhangs, enclosures, etc. are
authorized under this exemption.
2. The development must not involve removal, damage, or destruction of threatened or endangered
animal or plant species.
3. The development must not alter naturally or artificially created surface drainage channels.
4. The development must be consistent with all applicable use standards and local land use plans in effect
at the time the exemption is granted.
S. The proposed development shall remain consistent with the attached work plan drawings.
6. This permit does not authorize expansion of the existing structure.

Re: 14 Bermuda Landing
To whom it may concern,
I am writing to request a review of plans we have to make some changes to our newly acquired
residence. Our intent is to add a second deck over the existing back one and add a sliding glass or
exterior double door from the back bedroom to access it. The added deck will be erected with pressure
treated lumber and meet all applicable local codes through the North Topsail Beach permit process. The
permit will be pulled under my GC license and work will be done by me and help. The project will be
similar to existing 2-level decks already on several units. The sliding glass door or exterior double will be
white PVC or Fiberglass and match the existing window trim as best as possible. The existing bottom
deck will get black, fabric screening added to it to "enclose" it, also similar to existing screened in
porches at several units.
We would also like to enclose the existing shower under the front steps. This will also be done using
pressure treated lumber to match the existing deck and steps. It will be a four-sided enclosure with an
access door that faces the structure. Again, we intend to make it similar to existing enclosed showers at
several other units. I have included pictures below of what we intend to have the projects look like with
only small variables that account for taste, site variables, and possible updated codes. If you have any
