The space below the lowest floor that is located in V Zones must either be free of obstruction or constructed with non -supporting breakaway materials. Preferred construction materials are open wood latticework or insect screening. However, solid breakaway wall panels are allowed. Any construction below the lowest floor should collapse under wind and water loads without causing collapse, displacement, or other structural damage to the elevated portion of the building or the supporting foundation system. If non -supporting breakaway walls are used, they are to have a design safe -loading resistance of not less than ten nor more than twenty pounds per square foot If breakaway wags exol the twenty -pound criteria, they must be designed or certified by a registered professional engineer or architect, using the V-Zone Certification forth. 19.
