RE: EXEMPTED PROJECT (Statutory Exclusion) — MAINTENANCE AND REPAIR OF EXISTING
STRUCTURES— [G.S.113-103(S)(B)(5) AND [i5A NCAC 7K.0103(a)
Dear Mr. & Mrs. Yates:
I have reviewed the information submitted to this office in your inquiry concerning the necessary filing
of an application for a minor development permit under the Coastal Area Management Act. After
making a site inspection on 09-Mar-17, I have determined that the activity you propose is exempt from
needing a minor development permit as long as it remains consistent with your site drawing and
materials list submitted on 03-Mar-17, and meets the conditions specified below. If your plans should
change and your project will no longer meet these conditions, please contact me before proceeding.
MAINTENANCE AND REPAIR — [G.S. 313-103(5)(B)(5) AND 15A NCAC 7K.0103(a) - Maintenance and
repairs (excluding replacement) necessary to repair damage to structures caused by elements are
specifically excluded from the definition of development under the conditions and in the circumstances
set out in G.S. 113A-103(5)(B)(5). Individuals required to take such measures within an AEC shall contact
the local CAMA representative for consultation and advice before beginning work.
Structures may be repaired in a similar manner, size and location as the original structure. No
expansions or additions are permissible. The repairs are limited to 50% of the market value of the
existing structure and the following specific conditions:
1. The project consists of setting 14 posts, install cross overs to hold top, adding new galvanized
bolts and stainless steel screws, and install new x-bracing to 332 square foot walkway/pier that
was lifted during Hurricane Matthew, as indicated in the attached paperwork.
2. The proposed repairs shall be consistent with all other applicable local ordinances and North
Carolina Building Code standards.
This exemption to CAMA permit requirements does not alleviate the necessity of your obtaining any
other State, Federal or Local authorization and N.C. Building Permits. This exemption expires 90 days
from the date of the letter.

Please find attached Dock repair estimate.
Dock will be reinstalled in the exact same location as pre -Matthew shown on the present site plan in the permit file.
As shown in the estimate:
Set 14 post
Install cross-overs to hold top.
New Galvanized bolts, hardware.
Stainless screws.
Install new X-bracing.
Mr. Stocks will set the post and cross overs\X-bracing and set existing tops back on the post and attach.
This looks like it is within the 50% maintenance and repair guideline to me.. I defer to the professional though.

Please find attached drawing and I ax recor for Dock.
All re -installed dock parts will be located in exact footprint of existing ( Pre -Matthew) dock location.
The 32' X 6' runway is in 2 parts 16' each. 192 sq.ft.total
1- top is completely in -tack. Will place full existing top back on re-installed\new post.
2- top replace damaged joist (4) and re -apply existing deck boards . Will place full top on re-installed\new post
The dock ( T ) is completely in tack and will place existing top on re-installed\new post. 140 sq.ft total
Will not have to replace all post 6 x 6 (14 total) some are still in tack.
