SANDBAR OYSTER (ONRANY -..... ii Lexia, the following slides show the proposal for a living shoreline complex at 4113 Sound Drive, Morehead City. This property is owned by Gary and Melinda Ridgeway. They are Chris Martens' neighbors. They are interested in having a shoreline protected with living shoreline, and hopefully well enough so in the not -to -distant future, the bulkhead can be removed. To get to this desired outcome, we are looking to install two types of structures: 1) an offshore sill with an east and west section and an -12-ft wide gap between them; and 2) a revetment like structure at the base of the bulkhead. Both of these proposed structures, shown in the following slides would use Oyster Catcher" Tables and Pillows, as we've used with Chris Martens shoreline. The goal for the bulkhead revetment is to accumulate sediments while providing sufficient wave attenuation with an oyster reef at the foot of the revetment and the offshore sills to allow Spartina alterniflora to grow in the sediments trapped by the Pillows. With the establishment of an oyster reef and protected S. alterniflora bed in front of the bulkhead, the bulkhead can be deconstructed and the shoreline allowed to develop a natural slope and protective plant communities.
