DIVISION OF PaAJTB IYNTIVastewaterTreatment The Puraflo' Biofilter Puraflo® is a highly effective biofiltration system that uses biofibrous peat to treat septic tank effluent. The peat media filters the wastewater and promotes the growth of microorganisms which naturally treat household wastewater. The high quality treatment prevents the wastewater from polluting the ground- water, thereby protecting the environment. Because of the special properties of the biofilter media, the Puraflo® Biofilter is one of the best options for onsite treatment where conventional sys- tems have failed or are restricted due eoto high groundwater, shallow bedrock, poor soil, or site conditions. Puraflo® is also a good choice for homes, businesses, and small residential developments in areas where centralized treatment is unavailable or too expensive. WASTEWATER TREATMENT SYSTEMS Peat Biofflter fr Wastewater Treatment Single House Installation Septic Tank Pump Tank How It Works The wastewater flows from the home into a water- tight septic tank, where the solids settle and the liq- uids continue to the pump tank. It is then pumped to the biofilter modules and is evenly distributed over the surface of the biofibrous peat. The waste liquid is treated by natural microorganisms as it percolates down through the biofilter. It weeps from the base as a clear odorless liquid which is dispersed into a shallow gravel bed and then to the surrounding soil or is collected for disposal by other methods. Researchers and health departments agree that the percolation area required by Puraflo® is substantial- ly less than other systems due to the quality of treatment. The very low maintenance and long life of the biofil- ter ensures that the patented Puraflo® Biofilter will be the most cost effective solution for years to come.
