DAVIS Director NORTH CAROLINA Environmentaf Quality August 12, 2020 Bruce Chappell Permit Refinement State Permit No.139-17 c/o Stephen Conway Southern Marine Contractors 6252 Towles Road Wilmington, NC 28409 Dear Mr. Conway: This correspondence is with reference to the request you submitted to modify State Permit No.139-17, which was originally issued to Bruce Chappell on December 5, 2017 for the dock expansion and excavation at 21 Bahama Drive. State Permit No.139-17 is due to expire on December 31, 2020. The action proposed in your submittal consists of changes to platform and floating dock. The permitted 10ft. by 14ft. covered platform extending to the northeast will be omitted. The permitted 10ft. by 14ft. uncovered platform extending toward the south west is covered and expanded to 13ft. by 15ft 6in. Additionally, a 1Oft by Eft floating dock will be added landward of the original existing floating dock (see enclosed drawing dated 8/612020). Upon review of the information provided, the Division of Coastal Management has determined that the proposed action continues to be consistent with existing State rules and regulations and is in keeping with the original purpose and intent of the permit. I hereby submit this Letter of Refinement authorizing the modification of State Permit #1139-17, as described in your request dated August 6, 2020 and drawing dated August 6, 2020. By copy of this letter we are notifying the US Army Corps of Engineers and the Division of Water Resources of our action. Please note this refinement does not alleviate the need to obtain any other local, state or federal permits. Basically we would like it to be noted that the sitting area with covered roof was installed on the left hand side of the existing sitting area and was constructed to a size of 13 X 15 ft. 6 in. and there is a work platform that he would like to remain tied up to his floating dock and it measures 10 ft. 6 in. X 6 ft. wide. This is in lieu of the (1) 10 x 14 covered platform that was proposed on the right hand side. So just to be clear, the original permit included (2) 10 x 14 platforms,1 covered and (1) 8 X 30 floating dock. What is actually there currently is (1) 8 x30 floating dock and (1) 10 ft. 6 in x6 ft wide floating work platform tied off to his floating dock and (1) 13 X 15ft. 6 in. covered platform to the left of his existing sitting area as per drawing. I would put them in an envelope with DCM and my name to be sure it gets to the right place.
