RE: CAMA VIOLATION#15.14D
Dear Mr. Marek:
Donald R. van der Vaart
Secretary
This letter is in reference to the Notice of Violation dated August 11, 2014 that Heather Coats, representative for
the Division of Coastal Management, issued to you for unauthorized construction of decking adjacent to the
Atlantic Ocean at the Shoals Club in Bald Head Island, Brunswick County, North Carolina. The violation involved
the Ocean Hazard AEC, which is an Area of Environmental Concern designated by the Coastal Resources
Commission.
The Coastai Area Management Act provides that a civil assessment of up to $10,000 plus investigative costs may
be assessed for any violation. It is the policy of the Coastal Resources Commission to assess a civil penalty for
all violations in order to recover some of the costs of investigating violations and/or to compensate the public for
any damage to its natural resources.
Under the rules of the Coastal Resources Commission, a proposed civil penalty in the amount of $200 is
appropriate for this violation. This letter acknowledges receipt of your Check #1520, in the amount of $200, and
dated 8/6/15. The check has been credited to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources' account,
and this matter is fully and completely closed.
