Dear Christine,
Thank you for giving me the time I needed to protect myself from the loss of property. Mr. Turner's boat basin
at 304 Live Oak Drive would have invalidated my existing septic permit for a system that serviced two other
lots to make them buildable. I sent requests for a new septic plan to two engineers (one of whom suffered a
death in the family soon after) and never received word from them. I was able to prevail upon my brother,
who is also an engineer, and he created a new plan for a more advanced septic system on the property
impacted by Mr. Turner's application.
The Carteret County Environmental Health Department has issued a new permit to me for a system that will
not be impacted by Mr. Turner's planned boat basin. As long as he keeps to his original plan and basin
dimensions, I will be able put a system on my property to service two lots that do not perc.
I am content with letting the application move forward. Despite the increased cost of the new septic system, I
will not lose the use of two lots. Mr. Turner will be able to keep his shed, his two oak trees, and put in a basin
large enough for two boats. A happy outcome.
On another subject, the neighbors on the other side of my lot #14 (302 Live Oak Drive) who own lots #'s 12
and 13, (300 Live Oak Drive) have hauled in a substantial number of dump truck loads of fill, with no visible
provision from prohibiting runoff from traveling from their lot to mine. I am looking into that
situation. Always a challenge.
