Dear Mr. Rascoe:
NORTH CAROLINA
Environmental QuaW
LETTER OF REFINEMENT
Permit # 11-18
February 11, 2019
RECEIVED
FEB 19 2019
DCM-MHD CITY
This letter is in response to a February 4, 2019 email and site plan, from Joe Anlauf of Anlauf Engineering,
PLLC , in which it was requested that Major Permit # 11-18 be modified to include three s50 ftz riprap apron
areas landward of normal water level.
Major Permit # 11-18 was issued to the Town of Southern Shores on January 25, 2018. This Permit is for the
replacement of t58V of bulkhead, the installation of a 60' cul-de-sac turn around area and the rebuilding and
widening of Yaupon Trail.
The project is located on Town owned property within the Yaupon Trail right-of-way, Dare County, adjacent
to a man-made canal that leads to Jean Guite Creek.
Your modification request as described and/or depicted in the email submittal dated February 4, 2019, is
hereby authorized as a refinement to CAMA Major permit # 11-18. All existing conditions remain in effect,
including the expiration date of December 31, 2021. This letter is provided to you as a record of the
authorization, and should be included with the Permit file.
If you have any questions, please contact Ron Renaldi of this office at 252-264-3901.
Sincerely,

Gregg,
The Engineer for Southern Shores Yaupon Trl project (MP#11-18) would like to add 3 areas of riprap landward
of NWL and the bulkhead because of erosion concerns. The attachment "Riprap Apron Locations" highlights
the 3 areas. There is a bulkhead highlighted in blue with New Bulkhead written in red pointing to it which is
confusing because that is the previously authorized bulkhead, so they are not asking for a new bulkhead there.
Since this is entirely landward of the NWL and the bulkhead (no wetland impacts) and impacts at each location
is <= 50 A I'm thinking refinement. What do you think?

Ron,
Attached is a description of the three (3) locations that I would like to add riprap aprons to the Yaupon Trail project to
stabilize slopes and/or prevent erosion and sedimentation. No riprap will be added to the water, all riprap will be on
areas upgrade from the NWL.
Please review the attached at let me know if we can refine the existing permit. Thank you.
