To Whom It May Concern:
I have reviewed the information submitted to this office in your inquiry concerning the necessary filing of an
application for a minor development permit under the Coastal Area Management Act. After making a site inspection on
3/5/2018, 1 have determined that the activity you propose is exempt from needing a minor development permit as long
as it remains consistent with the photos, engineer's letter, and materials list submitted on 3/5/2018, and meets the
conditions specified below. If your plans should change and your project will no longer meet these conditions, please
contact me before proceeding.
MAINTENANCE AND REPAIR - (G.S. 113-103(5)(B)(5) and 7K.0209) - Structures may be repaired in a similar manner, size
and location as the original structure. No expansions or additions are permissible. The repairs are limited to 50% of
the physical value of the existing structure and the following specific conditions.
1. Repair oceanside decks per engineer's letter.
2. No changes shall be made to the building footprint.
This exemption to CAMA permit requirements does not alleviate the necessity of your obtaining any other State,
Federal or Local authorization and N.C. Building Permits. This exemption expires 90 days from the date of the letter.

to our previous letter dated February 22, 2017.
We visited the site on a previoUs occasion to check the decks and connections for the subject
project. Threaded rods were adled several years ago in order to prevent the decks' diagonal
members from pulling away ftot i the building. These rods were rusted but were still structurally
adequate. Additionally, we notited that some of the girders' connections at the brace and posts
were inadequate and were Wug in some instances. We recommended bolting a 4 x 6 x 18"
haunch along the diagonal sec on of the brace to help support the girders. Additionally, we
recommended adding a 2 x 12 t =ted beauty band on the outside face of the girder in order to
reinforce the existing girders. T1 e 2 x 12 can be nailed with( (3) 16ds at 12" on center to connect
to the existing girders. Be sure tc retain slope so that water v�ill not pond on the decks.
We also noticed that for some of the decks the flashing was not present on the outside edge and it
appeared that rot and detenorat on were occurring as evidenced by the staining on the 6 x 6
diagonal brace. We recomm opening up these areas to verify that the framing was in good
condition, especially because this helps support the diagonal brace.
