GENERAL NOTES:
1. JOISTS SHALL RUN PARALLEL WITH BOARDWALK AND RAMPS SUCH THAT
DECKING RUNS PERPENDICULAR TO THE DIRECTION OF TRAVEL.
2. RAMP SLOPE SHALL NOT EXCEED 1:20 IN THE DIRECTION OF TRAVEL AND SHALL
NOT EXCEED /4,PER FOOT CROSS SLOPE.
3. ALL CONSTRUCTION DEBRIS INCLUDING TREE (AS NOTED) SHALL BE REMOVED
FROM SITE AND DISPOSED OF IN A LEGAL MANNER.
4. CONTRACTOR SHALL SUPPLY CLEAN SAND FILL AS REQUIRED TO BACKFILL
WALL AND ESTABLISH GRADES AS SHOWN ON SECTIONS AND DETAILS.
5. ONSLOW COUNTY WILL REMOVE ALL BENCHES, SIGNAGE, TRASH RECEPTACLES,
PICNIC TABLES, ETC. PRIOR TO CONTRACTOR BEGINNING WORK AND WILL
REPLACE THEM AFTER CONTRACTOR'S WORK IS COMPLETE. CONTRACTOR SHALL
COORDINATE, PLACEMENT OF SUCH ITEMS WITH ONSLOW COUNTY.

STRUCTURAL NOTES:
1. IF ANY CONFLICTS OR DISCREPANCIES ARE DISCOVERED BETWEEN THESE
DRAWINGS AND THE NORTH CAROLINA BUILDING CODE, 2018 EDITION (HEREIN
REFERRED TO AS CODE), THEN CONTACT ENGINEER FOR CLARIFICATION.
2. CONTRACTOR SHALL VERIFY ALL DIMENSIONS PRIOR TO BEGINNING ANY WORK
OR ORDERING ANY MATERIALS.
3. THESE DRAWINGS ARE FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF A NEW VINYL SHEET PILE
BULKHEAD/RETAINING WALL AND FIXED PIER.
4. METHODS, PROCEDURES AND SEQUENCES OF CONSTRUCTION ARE THE
RESPONSIBILITY OF CONTRACTOR. CONTRACTOR SHALL TAKE ALL NECESSARY
PRECAUTIONS TO MAINTAIN AND ENSURE THE INTEGRITY OF THE STRUCTURE
DURING ALL STAGES OF CONSTRUCTION.
5. CONTRACTOR SHALL OBTAIN ALL PERMITS REQUIRED.
6. CONTRACTOR SHALL VERIFY THE EXISTENCE AND LOCATION OF ANY EXISTING
UTILITIES PRIOR TO BEGINNING WORK.
7. LAYOUT IS PROVIDED FOR INFORMATION ONLY, DRAWINGS BY STILLWATER
ENGINEERING ARE NOT INTENDED FOR RECORDATION, SALES OR CONVEYANCE.
8. CONSTRUCTION OF THE BULKHEAD SHALL BE IN STRICT ACCORDANCE WITH ALL
CAMA AND UNITED STATES ARMY CORPS OF ENGINEERS REGULATIONS AND
SHALL MEET THE REQUIREMENTS OF ANY OTHER JURISDICTIONAL AUTHORITY.
EXCAVATIONS SHALL BE PERFORMED IN ACCORDANCE WITH OSHA
REQUIREMENTS.
9. THIS BULKHEAD HAS BEEN DESIGNED IN ACCORDANCE WITH SECTIONS 3604
THRU 3607 OF THE NORTH CAROLINA BUILDING CODE, 2018 EDITION, INCLUDING
SECTION 3604.5 WIND LOADS, SECTION 3604.6 IMPACT LOADS AND 3604.8 WATER
LOADS. WIND AND WATER LOADING DETERMINED USING ASCE 7. THE DESIGN
WIND SPEED IS 150 MPH.
10. ALL WOOD MEMBERS SHALL BE SOUTHERN PINE MIN. GRADE No. 2. TREATED IN
ACCORDANCE WITH AWPA FOR GROUND CONTACT EXCEPT THAT 4X6 WALERS
AND 2X6 X-BRACING SHALL BE SEA -TREATED (2.5 CCA). RAILS, CAPS AND DECKING
SHALL BE SOUTHERN PINE #1 KDAT S4S.
11. ALL FASTENERS, HARDWARE, ETC. SHALL BE 316 STAINLESS STEEL (SST).
12. BACKFILL FOR BULKHEAD SHALL BE CLEAN GRANULAR FILL AND SHALL BE
WASHED IN TO FILL ALL VOIDS BETWEEN EXISTING AND NEW WALLS.
CONTRACTOR MUST NOT USE HEAVY EQUIPMENT SUCH AS VIBRATORY ROLLERS
TO COMPACT SOIL WITHIN 15' OF BULKHEAD. CONTRACTOR MAY USE
HAND -OPERATED COMPACTION EQUIPMENT SUCH AS PLATE TAMPS, JUMPING
JACKS, ETC. TO ACHIEVE REQD. COMPACTION WITHIN 15' OF BULKHEAD.
CONTRACTOR SHALL TAKE SPECIAL CARE TO ENSURE THAT TIE RODS/ANCHOR
RODS ARE NOT DAMAGED DURING BACKFILLING OPERATIONS. BACKFILL TESTING
IS NOT REQUIRED.
13. SHEET PILES SHALL BE ONE OF THE PRODUCTS AS SHOWN ON NEW
BOARDWALK SECTION. ALTERNATE MATERIALS ARE NOT ALLOWED WITHOUT
WRITTEN APPROVAL BY ENGINEER.
14. CONTRACTOR SHALL NOTIFY STRUCTURAL ENGINEER OF RECORD
(STILLWATER ENGINEERING) TO COORDINATE AND SCHEDULE CONSTRUCTION
VERIFICATION INSPECTIONS WHICH GENERALLY INCLUDES ANCHOR RODS, VINYL
INSTALLATION & WALERS.
15. NEW WALL ALIGNMENT SHALL BE 1N ACCORDANCE WITH CAMA PERMIT. DO NOT
CONSTRUCT NEW WALL BEYOND LIMITS SPECIFIED BY CAMA.
