AREA OF ENVIRONMENTAL CONCERN—Ocean Hazard AEC
Dear Mr. Dill:
I have reviewed the information submitted to this office in your inquiry concerning the necessary filing of an
application for a minor development permit under the Coastal Area Management Act. Based on the information
provided,I have determined that the activity you propose is exempt from needing a minor development permit if
it remains consistent with the information received from you on January 22, 2019,and meets the conditions
specified below. If your plans should change and your project will no longer meet these conditions,please
contact me before proceeding.
Maintenance&Repair
1. The maintenance and repair work authorized under this exemption specifically includes the
repair/maintenance of decking and walkway along the ocean side of the existing dwelling. No additions,
including roof overhangs,deck expansions,enclosures,etc. are authorized under this exemption.
All decking located within the 60' setback,as measured from the First Line of Stable Natural
Vegetation(FLSNV) shall not exceed a combined total of 500 sq.ft.This shall include existing and
proposed decking.No development shall take place seaward of the FLSNV.
2. The development must not involve removal,damage,or destruction of threatened or endangered animal
or plant species.
3. The development must not alter naturally or artificially created surface drainage channels.
4. The development must be consistent with all applicable use standards and local land use plans in effect at
the time the exemption is granted.
5. The proposed development shall remain consistent with the attached work plan drawings.
6. This permit does not authorize expansion of the existing structure.
This exemption to CAMA permit requirements does not alleviate the necessity of your obtaining any other State,
Federal or Local authorization. This exemption expires 90 days from the date of the letter.

Please make note this work would be considered maintenance/repair and therefore would not require a CAMA
permit. I am advising the Town of Surf City(through cc) so you may begin work. Eventually, I will get you something in
writing confirming this decision.

This diagram shows where Johnny Batts will install new piers (shown in black)for my house at 1010 South Shore. The
diagram shows roughly where the existing dune face is located for the properties from 1008-1014 South Shore.
In our last conversation,you said that all you need is a diagram showing the work to be done. Please let me know if
you need anything beyond this file.
