Statement of Compliance and Consistency
This permit is subject to compliance with this application, site drawing and attached general and specific conditions. Any
violation of these terms may subject the permittee to a fine or criminal or civil action; and may cause the permit to become
null and void.
This permit must be on the project site and accessible to the permit officer when the project is inspected for compliance. The
applicant certifies by signing this permit that 1) prior to undertaking any activities authorized by this permit, the applicant will
confer with appropriate local authorities to confirm that this project is consistent with the local land use plan and all local
ordinances, and 2) a written statement or certified mail return receipt has been obtained from the adjacent riparian
landowner(s) .

I was referred to your office which was identified as who oversees the United States Navy Loading Ramp on the
southern end of Radio Island in Morehead City/Beaufort, NC.
We, the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill - Institute of Marine Sciences (UNC-IMS), have proposed the
installation of a small data logging buoy to be located in the riparian waters of the North Carolina State Port property
just to the north of (adjacent to) the above -mentioned US Navy Loading Ramp. The purpose of the buoy is to collect data
for ongoing UNC research on corals that grow on the underwater rock jetty at this location. The buoy will record various
water quality parameters such as water temperature and ambient light. For more details regarding the buoy, please see
website https://www.sofarocean.com/ and/or view the attached buoy specs document.
We already have approval from the North Carolina State Port and have received the permit required by the US Coast
Guard. However, as part of the CAMA permitting process, we are required to notify all owners of adjacent properties to
be sure there is no impact to their riparian waters. Adjacent property owner signatures are required. I have included a
Google Earth image that details the exact location of the buoy at 34' 42.507' N by 76' 40.796' W. Please review and let
me know if you have any questions or concerns. If all is acceptable, we ask that you complete the bottom right-hand
section of the included CAMA form (Adjacent Riparian Property Owner Statement) and return it to me at the above
address, so we can submit it with our application package.
