The Bald Head Island Bald Head Creek Dock #24 Owners: Bill Michels, Parcel 2654C071, Mark Prak
2654C070, Tom Becherer 2654C069 and Paul Brooks 2654C068, have retained me as authorized
agent in applying for this CAMA GP.2000 General Permit to replace their Hurricane Isaias
damaged/destroyed dock. Adjacent Riparian Property Owners, Ms. Kathy Virtue to the east, and the
State Property Office were notified in December 2020 by certified mail. The 10 day wait period has
long elapsed. I am enclosing my check#2107, dated 5-10-21 for the $200 Permit Fee.

Please note that this dock/slip are the last/furthest east/upstream in Bald Head Creek. It was built as a
fixed, lower section 22' in length x 4' with 10' sloped fixed wooden ramp. The fixed, lower dock was
one of several Bald Head Island Limited, LLC built"crabbing docks" with lower to the water position
for fishing and crabbing, which also limited the dock use for motorboats in the Prime Nursery Area
(PNA)of the Creek, as the "crabbing dock" and much of the ramp are below water at high tide.

I.e. you couldn't leave your boat tied up overnight or even through a tide cycle. This was in the period
before wide acceptance and availability of roto-molded plastic kayaks (now available at just about
every sporting goods store, Costco, Sam's Club, etc.) and before stand-up paddle boarding became
vogue by legendary surfer, Laird Hamilton.
It is now desired to turn this already established Creek Dock/slip into a floating dock, for safer access
for kayak and paddleboard use. This area of the creek is a PNA. Village of Bald Head Island CAMA
LPO/Building Inspector and I visited the site on 12-29-20 at low tide, appx 1 pm. Water depths to the
water side were 36" and to the landward side 24" to the mudline. Over time, the landward side has
only gotten deeper as the creek has eroded that side of the creek marsh edge

at the center. 32' length indicated = the design 22' dock plus 10' ramp. Dock 24 is shared by the
owners of the four Cape Fear Station Lots to the east of Keepers Landing.
With the increase in creek width due to landside marsh erosion, I am proposing a nominal 8' wide x
22' length true floating dock. While the 4' dock width was acceptable for a fixed pier, it is nowhere
near as stable for a floating dock and trying to maneuver into a kayak or onto a paddleboard.
While present conditions, based on the low tide water depths taken with Stephen Boyett do not warrant
the added complexity of building the dock to structurally sit on transverse ptsyp cross member"stops",
I do plan to incorporate structure so that it is easily adaptable if in future the dock ends up constantly
sitting in the mudline. Doubtful with the direction the marsh edge is eroding, my design incorporates
the waterward side potential piles to be through"pile guides" on the dock rather than pile hoops to the
waterward side. Pile hoops would prevent the pulling a kayak directly alongside the water side when
embarking or debarking.

When you consider the first 6' of floating dock length will be affected by the bottom end of the hinged
ramp and thus not useable area, the 8'x22' ramp in reality is 8'x 16' = 128 sf, which is less useable
area than a 6'x22' floating dock = 132 sf, if there was no ramp. (And if the guide piles through the
waterward side of the dock are ever needed, available clear space is even less.)
