Dock #3 Temporary Kayak Launch Access to Bald Head Creek for 2021 Season in
Landward Footprint of the Existing Bald Head Creek Dock #3, aka the "Tent Site
Dock", which was structurally damaged during Hurricane Isaias. The dock is now
part of the Village "Marina Park"

Dear Ms. MacPherson,
Bald Head Island Limited, LLC has asked me to seek a CAMA GP.1900 General Permit (1 year) to
add two temporary kayak launch docks for the 2021 Season while FEMA Determination is sought on
the Hurricane Isaias damaged 140'x8' floating "Tent Site Dock", which has been used by both the Sail
Shop and Coastal Urge for their kayak/stand-up paddleboard rental/launch location. This area of creek
marsh is part of Limited's Parcel 26000005, which goes to the landward side of the adjacent timber
bulkhead.
The Village of Bald Head Island Building Inspector has the 6' wide wood pier closed off, as it, too,
was damaged during the Hurricane last August 3. The Isaias tornado that hit Southport Marina had its
origins appx at East Beach, and skirted down Bald Head Creek.

for safe access to the water. Mean High Water at
the island is defined as elevation 1.62'
The below diagram shows an appx 6'x14' raised preservative treated wood walkway Just south of the
existing pier for the launch location 1. The longer launch location 2 walkway over upland marsh is
appx 28 if to just short of MHW. I am showing aluminum ramps, 5' wide x 30' long, for gentle
access to the floating dock, but minimum size for the tide range is 4'x20'.

Structural details/drawings will be provided to the building inspector once CAMA Approval is
achieved. All Lumber will be PTSYP. All fasteners will be hot dip galvanized or better. (Note
stainless steel is considered better, although it in not necessarily stronger than the equivalent size
galvanized steel fasteners.).

Alternately, a conventional wood floating dock 6'x20' built to the 2018 North Carolina BuildingCode
Chapter 36 Docks, Piers, Bulkheads and Waterway Structures, with a
landing dock, would be quicker to make/have installed at the island, tse Memorialr Day/start of
kayak/paddleboard season is quick approaching. I envision up to four piles at each of the launch
locations for the plastic dock, and 6 appx 8" diameter marine treated Southern Yellow Pine (PTSYP)
for the wood dock.
The two kayak rental businesses will have some input into their "spot", and may decide on different
end of walkway treatments. Simplest being a set of wood steps down to the sand. The conventional
wood floating kayak launch dock is second, and the plastic launch system is third methodology. The
plastic system is appx 20' length of modular dock, with ramp landing pad, and up to 30' rail length for
a single and 40' for a double configuration.
Enclosed is my check #2101 for the $200 Permit Fee. Adjacent Neighbors at Old Baldy Foundation.
