This work will be performed by a local dredging contractor. I understand that a dragline crane mounted on a barge can scoop the material out and place it on the same barge. The barge will then carry the material back to the mainland where it will be trucked to a CAMA approved dumpsite. Included is a diagram of the proposed area to be dredged. The canals and entrance were dredged during the '96-'97 winter dredging season. The entrance has since then developed a slight hump about half way inside the canal entrance. This shallow spot(.9 to 1.8 feet depending on tide)has not only become a navigation problem but is impeding the natural flow of the tides. I understand per our conversation this morning that the Corps will not require anything from HHPOA since the small amount of dredge material will be hauled offsite to the mainland.
