Statement of Compliance and Consistency
This permit is subject to compliance with this application, site drawing and attached general and specific conditions. Any
violation of these terms may subject the permittee to a fine or criminal or civil action; and may cause the permit to become
null and void.
This permit must be on the project site and accessible to the permit officer when the project is inspected for compliance. The
applicant certifies by signing this permit that I)prior to undertaking any activities authorized by this permit,the applicant will
confer with appropriate local authorities to confirm that this project is consistent with the local land use plan and all local
ordinances, and 2) a written statement or certified mail return receipt has been obtained from the adjacent riparian
landowner(s).
The State of North Carolina and the Division of Coastal Management, in issuing this permit under the best available
information and belief,certify that this project is consistent with the North Carolina Coastal Management Program.

Dear Sir:
I am one of three owners to the property located at 234 River Drive Southport, NC. I
have been informed (Verbally) of a bulkhead project that is to take place at 232 River
Drive, adjacent to my property. I, along with the other property owners object to this
project for the following reasons. We have owned this property for 34 years and have
never had an erosion problem until nearby owners have hardened the shoreline with
bulkheads. I do not see where a bulkhead is a solution to an erosion problem but a cause
of it. By allowing my neighbors, the Angermayer's to bulkhead their property will only
pass their erosion problem on to me, thus creating an unnecessary financial burden on
me. Bulkheads create a domino effect of erosion.
When we built our home in 1969 the shoreline was a nice flat sandy beach. The property
remained this way until the owners at 230 River Drive put in a bulkhead on half of their
property. Last April, 2002 NC Coastal Federation looked at our property and
neighboring properties for consideration of a grant. At that time it was noted that some
"shelving" had taken place on our shoreline. There was a bout a one foot drop—off from
our yard to the beach. Several months later the owners at 230 River Drive finished there
existing bulkhead across the rest of their property. Immediately the Angermayer's started
losing land. A recent inspection of my property shows I now have about a 5' drop—off
and property loss also.
I understand the Angermayer's position but I do not see how passing their burden to me
solves the erosion problem now happening on our shoreline.
