Dear Mr. Stenberg:
This request is to obtain permitting permission for repairs of the Town of Oak Island's
40th Street, SE bulkhead located on Davis Canal. The bulkhead is an existing structure
(DCM MP-4) and its function is to stabilize and maintain the shoulder of the adjacent
paved street. This is accessible to public use. Significant repairs are required to maintain
this existing structure.
Enclosed please find a completed CAMA permit application, a plan view and cross-

Rae,here is the proposal for the bulkhead repair at 40th Street. As we discussed
the sheet piling will be 24-foot sheets with a double wale and double tieback rods. Each
sheet pile will be installed with equal amount below grade as required by the height of the
bulkhead. The lower wale will be a vinyl coated 8X8,the top wale will be a vinyl coated
6X6. The Tieback rods will be 1"vinyl coated 20 feet long or longer. Tieback rods will
be set 4 feet on center. I spoke to Horace Collier about driving new dead men,25 feet
long for me. He suggested that we install them on the other side of the street. We will
discuss this and make a decision later. The vinyl sheet piling will have a 50-year
warranty;the wales and tieback rods have a 20-year warranty. We will cut and remove
the asphalt in the street to allow installation of the dead men and tieback rods. We will
provide the fill material and backfill the bulkhead. Street repair will not be included in
this project. Total cost of the project will be$ 41,389.00. If you have any questions give

at 3720 E. Dolphin Drive, Oak Island. The town owns this bulkhead and it is in serious
need of repair. Please sign the waiver form if there are no objections and return it in the

The NC Division of Coastal Management requires the waiver before we can begin the
