ing pier/docking facility.

PROJECT NARRITIVE
Mason Knoll Condominiums Docks
May 8, 2006
Mason Knoll Condominiums Docks are located within the Mason Knoll
Subdivision. The site is located on the northern shore of Whiskey Creek and
inside the city limits of the City of Wilmington, NC— New Hanover County.

The project site is adjacent to the community owned shoreline of an existing
subdivision known as Mason Knoll. The subject docking facility was originally
authorized by CAMA Major Development permit #6-93. The project as originally
proposed would have replaced an existing 5' x 100' fixed pier with a floating
structure approximately 6' x 110'. This work was never done and is not being
contemplated at present. A subsequent modification to #6-93 authorized a 6' x
16' floating dock. In addition, the permit as issued authorized only 9 of the
original 25 docking spaces requested by the applicants. This authorization and
subsequent renewals expired on December 31, 1998.
The existing fixed pier has continued to be utilized due to the cost of a total
replacement. The floating dock was added to the structure. At the present time
the existing mooring pilings associated with the fixed pier are in need of
replacement. The existing floating dock is located in an inefficient location. The
enclosed application requests that the floating dock and ramp be relocated
approximately 8 feet downstream [east] of its'
present location. A rail be
installed in order to prevent the use of the downstream side of the dock as aill sl p.
The pilings now associated with this structure will be relocated accordingly. In
addition, all other existing mooring pilings will be removed and will be replaced
by new pilings spaced approximately 11' 7" on centers in order to create a total
of nine uniform docking spaces [sheet 3 of 4 ].
The waters of Whiskey Creek are classified as SA by the NC Division of Water
Quality. Whiskey Creek is also designated as a primary nursery area and is
closed to the taking of shellfish.
There will be no significant change in the configuration or use of the existing
facility. The shift in the floating dock is deemed to be outside the current
footprint and my clients were advised that a CAMA Major Development permit
would be required to do the work as described.
