Wilmington NC 28405-3845 Dear Mr. Giles, We wish to object to the proposed construction of a bulkhead as described in the attached copy of a lotification received 4 November 2008. ks we discussed with you 10 November,the notification is deficient in the following ways. 1. No description or drawing was provided with the notification. 2. Our lot is#12, not#1. 3. The phone number for the Division of Coastal Management is incorrect. Fhe lack of a description of a description or drawing, and the inaccurate description of our lot makes it mpossible for us to determine the nature of the proposed construction and the potential effect on our )roperty. We feel that the proposal to install a bulkhead or wall is undesirable for the following reasons. 1. The reflection of waves, due to wind and wakes, from the wall will cause erosion at the foot of the bulkhead and out into the water. This will wash out the oyster beds near the shore. Even a wall set back from the existing shore line will have this effect, since storm tides will bring the water level up to the wall, with accompanying erosion. 2. The natural overall movement of water is from the northeast to the southwest along the shore. Installation of a wall will cause erosion at the end of the wall, which, as far as can be told from the deficient notification, we believe may well be our property. 3. There are alternatives to building a wall that are less damaging to the environment and adjoining properties, such as installing riprap. n short, we need an appropriate notification, and feel that shoreline walls are erosive to adjoining )roperties.
