The dredging is for maintenance of this existing man-made canal,to deepen the canal 2d wide and @ 900' long, from a low-tide depth of 1.5' to 3.5' to 4' at low tide. At high tide,there would then be approximately 6' of water. Even at low-tide,the u al would then be very navigable. (1) A 48-hour notice shall be given to a representative` of the Division of Coa Management at 256-4161 prior to actual commencement of any development au rized by this permit. (2) In order to protect larval and juvenile aquatic species, no work will permitted between the dates of April 1 through September 30 of any year wit, the prior approval of the N. C. Division of Coastal Management. (3) No excavation will be permitted in the entire western branch . of the ca system, adjacent to Waterway Drive, as indicated on sheet 2 of 2 dated rec 11/25/85, or the easternmost 200 feet of the eastern branch of the ca system, adjacent to SR 1553. (4) To compensate for the habitat value lost in the portion of the canal sys where excavation is permitted, the side of the canal adjacent to "BI B" (the north, north east side of the canal along lots #3-26) will be gra' to create a 10-foot wide intertidal area. This area will be sprigged w. Soartina alterniflora marsh on 1-foot centers. (5) A temporary silt curtain made of filter X cloth, or other acceptable fab shall be installed at the mouth of the canal prior to performing excava work north of the canal adjacent to Lot #1 , Block B. (6) The average dredge cut along the eastern segment of the property must be any wider than 30' . All required excavation to gain that width f be into highground along the southern upland boundary. (7) The average depth of the finish dredge cut must start at -2.5' MLW at far ends (Lot #26 Block B; and Lot #14 Block A) , taper to -3.5' MLW at "Y" and slope to -4' MLW at the AIWW connection. (8) All spoil that is removed by dragline or backhoe must be stabilized on upl areas behind a visible berm or temporary retaining device such as st bales. On those lots where no berm is present, the spoil must be truc to the designated disposal area immediately. (9) To prevent excavated material from reentering the canal , a silt fence be constructed between the edge of the canal and the material retent area. The fence will be maintained until the excavated material is remc from the area. (10) No wetlands will be filled. (11 ) This permit covers only the work provided for in the application.
