K mt RECEIVED REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS Town of Oak Island,North Carolina For STRUCTURAL REPAIRS—YAUPON PIER Pursuant to G.S. 143-129, interested parties are invited to submit sealed proposals for STRUCTURAL REPAIRS—YAUPON PIER for Town of Oak Island, North Carolina. Proposals will be received by Mr. Jerry Walters, Town Manager, at the Town Hall,4601 East Oak Island Drive until 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday,March 3,2009. At that time the proposals received will be publicly opened and read. Instructions for submitting bid proposals and the accompanying specifications and bid conditions may be obtained at the office of the Town Clerk in the Oak Island Town Hall during normal weekday office hours,8:00 A.M. to 4:30 P.M. A five percent(5%) bid deposit is required. Such bid deposits must accompany all such bid proposals in the form of cash,or a certified check or cashier's check or U.S. money order made out to the Town of Oak Island, or a surety bond, as required by North Carolina law (G.S. 143-129). RELLI V" ED FEB 13 2009 fC_M wil MIAICTnM O G Specifications / Bid Schedule STRUCTURAL REPAIRS — YAUPON PIER Town of Oak Island Location Yaupon Pier 705 Ocean Drive Description Pile supported Timber Structure, 16 feet wide and 930 feet long with two "T" sections. Work to be Performed • Contractor shall be a Marine Contractor experienced in this type of work. A list of similar projects, experience, and references shall be included with the Proposal. • Contractor shall familiarize himself with the site and all conditions prior to submitting the Proposal. • Contractor is responsible for securing the work site, maintenance and protection of traffic, and safety of the general public. • Contractor shall extend, repair, replace, as necessary those piles and pile caps from bent number 42 through 63. The contractor shall submit a description of proposed work and the methods and equipment to be used to accomplish same. • This project does NOT include leveling and straightening the pier. • Upon completion of this work, all disturbed areas of the pier are to be returned to like or better condition such that the pier is safe and ready for public use. • The Town shall be responsible for acquiring all Permits. • Contractor shall begin work within ten(10) days of Notice to Proceed and complete all work within sixty(60)calendar days. Total price for the above described work $ This price includes all labor, materials, and equipment, liability insurance, workmen's compensation, state and local sales taxes required to complete the described work. SECTION 1.0 MATERIALS AND CONSTRUCTION 1.1 GENERAL REQUIREMENTS : This work includes labor, materials, equipment, necessary to repair the pier. 1.2 LUMBER : Lumber shall be No. 2 Southern Yellow Pine. All lumber shall be pressure treated in accordance with AWPA Cl. Preservative treatment shall be for continuous salt water immersion and ground contact with a minimum of.80 pounds per cubic foot net retention. All lumber shall bear the grade mark of a certified grading agency and the AWPA LP—22 grade mark. 1.3 BOLTS : Bolts shall be hot dipped galvanized in accordance with ASTM A153. Bolts shall be installed with 3"x 3"x 3/8"washers or round washer. Bolts shall not be over — torqued so as to deform the washer. Hole size shall not exceed bolt diameter by more than 1/16". 1.4 MISCELLANEOUS STEEL COMPONENTS : Steel components shall be ASTM A36 hot dipped galvanized in accordance with ASTM A153. Galvanizing shall be performed after fabrication. 1.5 NAILS : Nails shall be Commercial grade common wire nails hot dipped galvanized in accordance with ASTM A153. 1.6 PILES : Piles shall be Southern Yellow Pine conforming to ASTM D25 — 73 and ASTM D2889—74.
