RE: Proposed Dock at 1503 Herring Lane
To Whom It May Concern:
My name is Victoria James and I own the home located at 1505 Herring Lane, Wilmington, NC 28403.
With this letter I am formally stating my objection to the construction of a dock proposed by Mr. Steve
Edgerton, owner of the home located at 1503 Herring Lane, Wilmington, NC 28403.
Mr. Edgerton proposed the dock in 2009 and my husband and I responded to him at that time that we
could not agree to its construction because the additional footage off of the already lengthy pier would be
squarely in the middle of our water view and would significantly diminish the value of our property. The
existing dock already encroaches on our view, but the addition Mr. Edgerton proposes would not only
severely impede our view of Bradley Creek, but would additionally cause major intrusion into our privacy,
since we have a pool in our backyard.
It seems to us disrespectful to insist on this addition knowing how it would negatively impact our property.
We have already planted hedges between our homes in order to create a sense of privacy, but the
proposed dock would all but successfully negate any attempts by us to maintain the illusion that we have
any boundaries.
Mr. Edgerton is aware that my husband and I now reside in Philadelphia and are not currently in
Wilmington to handle this. His certified letter with attached survey diagram, dated July 20, just arrived
today, July 26, and states that I have only ten days to respond.
My husband and I intend to retire in our home at 1505 Herring Lane and have already planned to rebuild
our back deck and pool area, including a walkway out to the water. If Mr. Edgerton's proposal is allowed
to go forward, this will most certainly be impossible, or at least undesirable.
We wish to be good neighbors and in that spirit sincerely hope that we can come to an amicable
