exemption Request for the Bald Head Island Limited, LLC CAMA Permit 91-96, Deep Point Marina.
:)n Sunday, October 2, 2011, at about 3 a.m., a very fast moving ship on the Cape Fear River caused
;xcessive surge/sway throughout the marina basin. Harbormasters Ben Traynham/Rob Gandy have
locumented evidence of this event from boaters on board their vessels.
k-Dock took the brunt of the force, and there is damage as shown in the pictures on my included
hawing. We know of 6 or 7 piles that were damaged, including cracking at the mudline. The number
nay be as high as 10 piles when we have the piledriver do a full evaluation. The longside band board
shows curvature, and 4 cleats either sheered their fasteners or pulled through the deck or band. We ask
;o do the necessary repairs/replacements to the structural frame, band boards, deck boards and entire
;leat system as we feel is necessary.
We think we were fortunate in that a large motor yacht was docked along A -Dock at the time of the
ncident. Otherwise, the damage may have been transmitted throughout the marina to several other of
he docks and the pile system.
