Mr. Charles Young, President of Young Realty Co. Inc. has retained ne as his authorized agent for this bulkhead and riprap project along Bald Head Creek. I have icluded 5 copies of an 11 "x17" color drawing seal dated 9/20/12 in support of the project. Relative >roject dimensions are per your site sketch on 9/ 11 / 12 and the 12/ 14/ 11 bulkhead repair exemption. 'ermit requests are indicated in red on the drawings. after discussions with Mr. Young, I am showing the placement of vinyl sheetpile along the 28'+/- ,scarpment at the southeast end of the project. This will protect the existing road edge from further >rosion. Since this is in shallower water than the 32' repair exemption repair, we are able to re -use the amoved "short sheets" and use them along the 28' that you indicated in your sketch. Very eco- iendly. I have shown an appx 4' "return" to stabilize the end. We also request to repair/replace the 0'+/- angled length of bulkhead east of the dock pier, and transitioning past the 135 degree corner. I im including one copy of the sealed structural reference detail from the prior repair. The succeeding 0' and 8.5' of existing bulkhead appear to be sufficiently deep in the ground as not to need spair/replacement. As this is a bulkhead general permit, I ask that if we discover additional existing heet pile that needs repair (new sheets or piles/whalers) that we be allowed to do it under this aquest. There is appx 61 If of bulkhead to the northeast of the repair that was not replaced under the !xemption 50% limits (the dock pier was also rebuilt). Along the 10', 8.5', 28'lengths and 4' return, my nal structural design will probably include piles and whalers, but to a lesser extent than the deeper rater conditions warranted. A wood hand rail &/or wood cap will be included on the new bulkhead. er CAMA Section .1100 rules and my detail, the maximum extent of proposed riprap is 10' from the raterside of the vinyl sheetpile bulkhead. I am showing a like amount of end protection. Riprap is to ie placed no shallower than 3H:1 V or steeper than 1 1 /2H:1 V. We do want to try to prevent any :hance of future undermining of the sheet pile. Per site dimensions and end protection, the riprap quested is approximately 175 LF x 10' max. Due to the current economy and the high cost of cringing riprap to the island, we will probably not at this immediate time go to the full 10' width of prap that is possible, or possibly not full length. But at this time we want to be able to do it all. am enclosing my check #6360 9/21 / 12 for the $400 permit fee, as per out e-discussion yesterday. I ave mailed the adjacent riparian property owners by certified mail, return receipt requested. Copy f the letters and certified mailing is included.
