Shore Drive Re: 606 N. Shore Drive Sand Push by Private Contractor April 6, 2012 Dear David and Nicole Hudspeth, I am writing to Urovide an update rep-ardinp, Petting sand "pushed" up to help restore the dunes. Print igh water mark directly forward to our dime in order to provide additional protection and replace some of tf. and that was removed during Hurricane Irene last Fall. To obtain the Permit, we are required to notify imiedirately adjacent property owners (604 and 608 N. Shore for our home) that we intend to 'Push Sand". vas told by the CAMA office that one way to obtain verification is to write a letter explaining what we intend ccomphsl-, and send to the adjacen property owners via US Postal nail using a "return receipt requested" m irocedu re. The adjacent owners should sign the green post office card and return it to me. I was instructed d aese cards are one method to verify notification so we can receive the Permit. In our current situation, we au vorking under a time -urgent deadline, as explained below. Just in case you might be interested in undergoing this process yourself, let me offer the following mfonnation. I should mention this is the first time, we have ever attempted this "Sand Push" process so my mowledge is limited, but I will provide what I have been told so far. The CAMA officer in Wilmington is Jason Dail (910.796.7221) and he was very helpfiil on the phon le stated that the Emergency Permit takes ten days to issue after they have the Permit Application along witl equned verification of notification of adjacent property owners. The Permit will only be good until April 30t1 here is a moratorkun for turtle season from May 1 st to November 15th. Jason Dail also provided die name of a potential contractor (Cecil Carter from Carter Construction; i )hone 910.330.3475) who has been pushing sand for some North Topsail Beach owners. I spoke with Mr. :after this morning (Friday) to enquire about the cost to push sand. He told me he charges $3.30 per foot. Nhen I enquired to clarify a total amount, I explained I had 60 fl wide property, and would this mean a total rf approximately $200 (that is $3.30 * 60ft)? He replied that this sounded about right. i am hoping I can orange Mr. Carter to push our sand on Friday April 27th so we can obtain the permit in time and beat the Tv st moratoriuun. This should help give a little more protection during the next hurricane season. I am not able to do any co-ordination of this process fi-om my end, but simply offering some information vas given about the process in case you might find it helpful.
