Wilmington, NC 28405-3845 Dear Mr. Mairs, Thank you for our telephone conversation recently about the pier at the foot of Snyder Street, Wrightsville Beach adjacent to our family property at 222 South Lumina. After our talk I had expected to receive a form about the proposed dredging around the pier. In the past we have always been asked to give permission for such dredging next to our Sound property. You said that sending this form had been neglected and that it would be done. We have not received anything to date. Could you clarify this for us please. As I said to you, in recent years we have objected to dredging on the north side of the pier, since this allows larger boats to dock further into the required setback, into which the north side pilings and floating dock of the pier illegally intrude already. This extension of the pier was done without required permits and we have consistently objected. Also, we discussed the possible replacement of the pilings which are within the required setback area of the pier in the current work being done by the Blockade Runner. You indicated that it wouldn't be permitted to replace these without moving them out of the setback. I would like to be sure that this will be enforced. If we need to appeal any recent ruling that continues the pier's intrusion into the setback area I wish to do so. After our talk I had expected to receive a form about the proposed dredging around the pier. In the past we have always been asked to give permission for such dredging next to our Sound property. You said that sending this form had been neglected and that it would be done. We have not received anything to date. Could you clarify this for us please. As I said to you, in recent years we have objected to dredging on the north side of the pier, since this allows larger boats to dock further into the required setback, into which the north side pilings and floating dock of the pier illegally intrude already. This extension of the pier was done without required permits and we have consistently objected. Also, we discussed the possible replacement of the pilings which are within the required setback area of the pier in the current work being done by the Blockade Runner. You indicated that it wouldn't be permitted to replace these without moving them out of the setback. I would like to be sure that this will be enforced.
