Division of Coastal Management on March 5, 2016, regarding your concerns about the proposed development by Mr. Bradford Stevens at 881 Bostic Place SW, adjacent to the Lockwood Folly River, in Shallotte, Brunswick County, North Carolina. The project consists of the construction of a private docking facility. Based on site visits by staff with our office and review of the provided drawings, the construction of the proposed private docking facility has been determined to comply with the current Rules of the Coastal Resources Commission (07H.1200)-General Permit for construction of piers, docks, and boat houses in the Estuarine Shoreline AEC, and as such, a permit has been issued to authorize the development. I have enclosed a copy of the permit, as well as, the relevant statutes. If you wish to contest our decision to issue this permit, you may file a request for a Third Party Appeal. The Chairman of the Coastal Resources Commissionwill consider each case and determine whether to grant your request to file for a Contested Case Hearing. The hearing request must be filed with the Director of the Division of Coastal Management, in writing and must be received within twenty (20) days of the disputed permit decision. We object to the enclosed proposal for the following reasons. First, we do not object to our neighbor installing a dock. The dock is fine, no problem. Our objection is the location of the boat lift. We would prefer the boat lift be located on the other side of the dock. 1. At low tide it will be very difficult for us to navigate in and out with our boat. There is an enormous oyster bed on the opposite side of our dock making navigation impossible in that area at low tide. 2. The location of the proposed boat lift will destroy our fishing opportunities because of to the location of the huge oyster bed on the opposite side of our dock. The oyster bed goes for a long distance underwater that cannot be seen totally even at low tide. To -restate, we have no objection at all with the proposed dock itself. We would ask that the boat lift be re -located on the opposite side of their dock for navigational safety and not destroy our great fishing privileges that we have enjoyed since 1971. 1 am sure that a good neighbor will understand our concerns.
