The existing bulkhead in the marina is failing (Photos 1 and 2). Carolina Beach proposes to install approximately 390' of bulkhead. The proposed bulkhead will be installed approximately 4' behind the existing bulkhead. The proposed bulkhead will be constructed of vinyl sheet piles with a concrete cap and anchors. The installation is planned in two phases. Phase 1 includes —225' of the most damaged area of bulkhead. Phase 2 will include —165 to complete the bulkhead along the west bank of the marina. The existing bulkhead will remain in place during construction of the replacement bulkhead. The floating docks will be temporarily moved waterward to allow continued use and installation of a turbidity curtain for in water work to remove the old bulkhead.
